Rangga Trails
Birding Trips, Adventure Tours, and Photography in Sulawesi and beyond
Discover Indonesia with Rangga Trails
My name is Rangga Mamengko or Angga for short, and the story of Rangga Trails begins in the forests of North Sulawesi, where I grew up surrounded by misty volcanoes, lush rainforests, and the songs of endemic birds that colored my childhood. For as long as I can remember, I have been following trails — not only through nature but through the footsteps of those who came before me.
My father, one of North Sulawesi’s senior tour guides and a skilled photographer, taught me to see beyond the surface — to notice the subtle beauty in every wingbeat, every sound, every sunrise over the highlands. Thanks to him, guiding became more than a profession; it became a calling.
It was my father who first introduced me to Om Nurlin Djuni, the founder of Malia Tours Indonesia and one of Indonesia’s most respected birding mentors. Under his guidance, I discovered the extraordinary world of birding in Sulawesi, learning to identify the calls of the Sulawesi Pitta, the flight of the Knobbed Hornbill, and the rhythm of life hidden within the rainforest canopy. Om Nurlin — and my father — both encouraged me to take my own path, to craft something personal yet grounded in the same respect for nature and community.
That’s how Rangga Trails was born — a journey that connects my roots with my passion for birding, adventure, and photography.
